Bollywood Star News
In the first of Q+As with Bollywood Stars, Bollywood Hens asks star Akshay Kumar what he loves about his new film, Khatta Meeta.

What attracted you to Khatta Meetha?
When Priyanji narrated me Khatta Meetha on the sets of De Dana Dan I couldn’t wait to start filming it… The script was so good. Actually, we started filming Khatta Meetha even before De Dana Dan had been released! I really love the humour of this film but it is not a full comedy which is probably why I love it, there was no force, it’s funny when it’s funny but it’s damn serious when it’s serious…
Can you tell us a bit more about your role?
My role in ‘Khatta Meetha’ is very aggressive, persuasive, desperate, unfortunate, sly, annoying to everyone around me but it was really nice to play. I really enjoyed myself in this movie and I feel I’ve delivered my best comedy role yet! Hope you think the same! J
How does this comedy role differ from other funny roles you have played?
This movie is beyond our usual commercial Priyadarshan madness, the amount of drama and political satire involved it becomes rather a strong film indeed… You’ll see how much I enjoy myself in this movie, Priyanji has rolled a lot into one here…
What is Khatta Meetha about the movie?
Khatta Meetha is a political satire that exposes the real corruption that unfortunately exists in India’s transport system. I play the character of Sachin Tichkule, a struggling road construction contractor who refuses to buy into the corrupt system. As a result, he is the biggest loser… and he will have to battle it out against his day-to-day survival to try to keep his head safe and sound.
Trisha Krishnan makes her debut in Bollywood with Khatta Meetha. How was working with her?
It was great because she is a very good and stable actress. She’s also a huge star in Tamil cinema and I have no doubts that she will also succeed in Bollywood.
By the way, what do you think about the song Bull-Shit?
Ah… I do love this song!! The message is so strong and incredibly blunt. Also, the lyrics were just so right for what the whole movie is about. No one can deny how truthful this song really is…
Leaving the film aside, what is the most challenging role you have ever played?
Physically it will always be my action movies, but mentally I’d have to say my character in 8×10 Tasveer was probably the most challenging role, having to be so dead and cold in side, to kill my own twin, to have outer body experiences finding missing people through pictures and how they died was very draining and unusual for me to play, but one I still enjoyed portraying…
Finally, will we ever see you in a serious drama?
Why not? If I was given a script of any genre that pulled me in at the first read, as with Khatta Meetha, I would be on that movie in a flash, but I am still waiting for that ultimate drama. By the way, I think you should watch Patiala House when it is released in November, because this movie is a family drama that I’m sure you’ll enjoy!
